Analysis
WhatsApp dominates engagement with a median of 177 sessions per user per quarter — roughly two opens per day. Chrome (125) and the Google app (77) follow as utility drivers. Social platforms split sharply: Instagram (67) and Facebook (58) show habit-forming patterns, while TikTok lags at 46 sessions. ChatGPT demonstrates the newcomer profile — broad 34% reach but light intensity at just 14 sessions per quarter. Utility and commerce apps (grocery, banking, food delivery) cluster at 4–13 sessions, reflecting their errand-driven nature rather than habitual engagement.

Methodology
Median sessions per user computed within the panel (no population upsampling required). Source: Google Play Store app-use event stream, October–December 2025. For each major category, the highest-reach app was selected. Medians and interquartile ranges (P25–P75) calculated across panelists with ≥1 session in that app. Categories with fewer than 300 active users excluded. Panel: n=11,209 German residents with ≥1 app-use event in the period.
