Analysis
In July 2025, 5.38% of all active Amazon.de shoppers placed at least one order in a travel category — luggage, sun protection, snorkel gear, powerbanks, or similar — marking the annual high. Buyer reach peaks one month later than pure order-share (Chart 0), reflecting stragglers from the staggered summer holiday windows: Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg begin holidays on 31 July and 1 August respectively, extending the purchasing tail into July.
The summer holiday packing window, decoded by buyer type
The May (4.6%), June (5.1%), July (5.4%) surge corresponds precisely to the sequential start of school summer holidays across Germany's 16 Bundesländer. In 2025, all 16 states overlapped for the first week of August — meaning the active buying window stretches a full six weeks. Autumn half-term and pre-Easter periods produce only mild upticks. Winter months (December 2025 – January 2026) fall below 3%, confirming that travel accessories are genuinely discretionary and tightly holiday-linked rather than year-round essentials on Amazon.de. For brands targeting Sommerurlaub preparation, the May–July window is the decisive activation period for travel accessories in Germany.

Methodology
The buyer reach metric counts, for each calendar month, the share of active German Amazon.de shoppers who placed at least one order in a travel-related product category. The denominator is all shoppers who placed any Amazon.de order with a valid product identifier that month; the numerator is those shoppers who also had at least one order in the 42-category travel taxonomy (luggage, sun protection, snorkel/dive, tents and sleeping bags, travel accessories, guidebooks, international power adapters, powerbanks). Because numerator and denominator are drawn from the same monthly active-shopper base, the metric is unaffected by the overall growth in panel size over the observation window (January 2025 – April 2026). Shaded bands in the chart highlight the main packing windows before German school summer holiday clusters.
